Explosive device goes off as kids play with it in Kupwara, 7 hurt | India News

SRINAGAR: Hours after the encounter ended in Handwara forest on Sunday morning, seven people, including four minors, were injured when an explosive device went off in Ahgam area in Kupwara district. The site of the blast is just four km away from Chanjimulla, where five securitymen died in an overnight operation by the Army, CRPF and J&K police to flush out two terrorists.
The blast occurred in the afternoon when two of the children who were injured found the device and started playing with it, sources said. Police are probing how the children got hold of the device. Duty officer at Zatchaldara police post, Manzoor Ahmad, said: “An investigation is underway and nothing can be confirmed as of now.”
The injured were taken to Handwara district hospital, from where four of them were shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment, Ahmad said.
Those hospitalised were identified as Adil Ahmad Ganie (10), Junaid Ahmad Khan (12), his brother Tanveer Ahmad Khan (18), Syed Khalid Bukhari (17), Maqsood Ahmad Shah (28), Reyaaz Ahmad and Mohammad Ashraf Qureshi, both aged 30. Junaid, Adil, Maqsood and Syed Khalid were referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital.
